Club Atwater perfect host to celebrate 20th anniversary squash marathon

Wow! What a day! What an event! The annual Flag Match came down to the final encounter as Canada's Ian Denman held off the persistence of Alex Zivic of the World team winning 3-2 and clinching the cup for the host nation.

The Flag match was the featured event in the 20th annual squash marathon held for the first time at Club Atwater Born on Saturday May 9, 1997. the day included an open challenge, coupled with tips from the pros. Participants could also purchase Westjet tickets, equipment and cupckakes from WICAC Junior council.

Along with our gratitude to the club for opening their door to us, we want to honor the following people who made it possible.

Dave Phillips, squash professional, our guidance the past 18 years and Tim Burganov, owner of Sports Virtuoso for leading the days' activities with pride and enthusiasm.

Anne-Christine Lajoie, Alexandra Norman for sharing their on-court skills.Rainer Zimmermann,Scott Copeland, Lester Simpson, and Brian Forsyth who have been to every squash marathon since its' inception.

Mostly, thank-you to all who took part in any of the above activities. You took a new idea of the club and ran with it. We made a whole lot of new friends and reacquainted with old ones. A price tag can't be put on that kind of affection. It was an privilege and a pleasure.
